Holyoke City Council recommends new lease with Valley Blue Sox as Opening Day nears

HOLYOKE The City Council’s Finance Committee on Monday recommended a new lease between the Valley Blue Sox Foundation Inc. and the Parks and Recreation Department.
The Valley Blue Sox, part of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, play their home games at MacKenzie Stadium. The team won the league championship in 2017 and 2018. Its 2020 season was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, but it plans to resume games this summer.
The North Shore Navigators have announced their schedule for the upcoming New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) season, featuring 21 home games at historic Fraser Field. NECBL Commissioner Sean McGrath and Navs President & General Manager Derek January made Thursday’s announcement.
North Shore returns to its original summer collegiate home in the NECBL for the first time since 2011. The season and home opener is set for Friday, June 4 when the Vermont Mountaineers travel down from Montpelier to Lynn for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
Home games at Fraser throughout the summer of 2021 are scheduled to begin at 6:35 p.m. on Monday through Saturday nights and 4:05 p.m. on Sundays.

After an up-and-down freshman year at Arkansas, Rutledge transferred to Houston-area junior college powerhouse San Jacinto and immediately looked like a first-round pick. He had trouble getting on the mound in Fayetteville in part due to his command, which still isn’t great. Rutledge often worked 96-100 at San Jac, mixing in a comfortably-plus slider and a curveball that was closer to average. He would occasionally flash a good changeup, too, but that pitch was a distant fourth offering at the time. That’s not really the case anymore, as Rutledge has hit the breaks on his curveball and spent most of 2020 focusing on his changeup, which had good fade and tailing action during spring training this year.

(Newport, RI) Newport is hosting the New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game this summer. It s going to be played Cardines Field, home of the Newport Gulls, on Sunday, July 18th. The Gulls open their home season on June 4th against Vineyard. The season ends on August first.

NORWICH The Hanover High baseball team rode six innings of four-hit Wes Stocken pitching and made the most of limited offensive opportunities to earn a 3-2 win over Sunapee on Tuesday at the Dresden Athletic Fields diamond, completing a two-game sweep of the Lakers.
Stocken, a junior, struck out four, walked one and didn’t allow a run after Sunapee (0-2) scored in the top of the second inning to erase an early Hanover run. Junior Josh Bucci worked the seventh for the save, allowing an unearned run.
