THE Coastguard helicopter was drafted in during a dramatic rescue operation to help a casualty stuck in mud with water up to their waist. Following multiple 999 calls today, Southend Coastguard led the mission in the face of a fast, advancing tide off Two Tree Island in Leigh. There was also a pressing need to pluck the casualty to safety to stop the onset of hypothermia. A passing paddle boarder was able to help the casualty and take them to the Two tree slipway to meet the lifeboat and the helicopter which landed on the slipway so that a medic could treat the casualty for the onset of hypothermia.

Three men were rescued from inside a refrigerated lorry after they called police for help, saying they were struggling to breathe.
A hunt for the vehicle was launched and the lorry, believed to have travelled from France, was tracked by Essex police and Cambridgeshire police up the M11 to the A14 at Brampton Hut services just before 4.30pm on Wednesday (February 17).
East of England Ambulance Service attended, to check the welfare of the men before they were arrested by the Beds, Cambs and Herts Roads Policing Unit. They will now be handled by immigration services.
Mr Powell moved to RAF St Mawgan, in Cornwall, before being posted to RAF Wattisham in 1971.
He bought a house in Hadleigh and remained there ever since, becoming a committed member of the community and bringing up three children who gave him four grandchildren.
On leaving the RAF, Mr Powell worked for the Prudential and became someone to confide in and helped those who grieved when they lost loved ones.
Mrs Powell said her husband was caring, loving, and very family-orientated , adding his family was his life. He never complained throughout his illness, he always kept the pain from us,” she said.
