Olivers on the Beach, a cafe on Western Esplanade, then announced it s closure, around 10am. The body was believed to have been found close by.
Essex Police then confirmed a woman had been found dead. A statement from the force, read: We were called to concerns around 9.15am this morning (Monday 24 May) after the body of a woman was found in the water along Western Esplanade, Southend. Emergency services attended and, sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Farmer Russel Abbott was out in his field one day when the air ambulance descended from above and showcased the life-saving work the charity does.
The East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) flew to a Bentley field on April 27 when a man in his fifties suffered a cardiac arrest. Thirty-six-year-old Mr Abbott saw the aircraft land in his field.
The man was then flown to the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge for further care. It really hit home to me that could be my dad, Mr Abbott said. It s just everybody s lifeline.

East of England Ambulance Trust paramedic Darren Jensen and senior emergency medical technician Lloyd Shorting came in on a rest day to collect a vehicle before visiting Ellis Wild at his home in Writtle. During the day they showed Ellis, who is battling stage four neuroblastoma, the equipment and ambulance - giving him a certificate of bravery as well as a raft of gifts donated by colleagues.
