Government proposes to cut funding for subjects such as drama by 50 per cent at higher education level

A flortist The Musicians Union has reacted in horror at the revealed plans to cut government funding to certain subjects at a higher education level by 50 per cent, according to a report by the Office for Students (OFS). The OFS (the independent regulator for higher education in England) laid in the plans earlier this year, following proposals confirmed in a letter from State Secretary for Education Gavin Williamson, which shows that the amount of money to be given to performing and creative arts, media studies and archaeology will be cut in half. The theatres were closing. Samara packed his bags and went home. He hasn’t been in a theatre or played a live show since.

In January, the UK government denied claims that it rejected a deal offer from the EU that would allow musicians to enter countries that belong to the union without a visa following the completion of Brexit. A report by the Independent, quoting an unnamed source close to the negotiations, that a “standard” proposal that would exempt performers from needing a visa to enter countries in the EU for trips under 90 days was turned down by the government. Now, over 300 arts organisations have signed an open letter to UK prime minister Boris Johnson, highlighting the lack of a clear plan and support for musicians following Brexit. The letter, organised by the Incorporated Society Of Musicians (ISM), proposing four measures to guarantee the survival of the music sector:
