The future-racing genre has had a few notable jumpstarts over the last few years, with Redout sitting heavily amongst the frontrunners. Its fantastically realised visuals, exceptional music and breakneck sense of futuristic speed meant that it carried on Wipeout’s legacy while bringing its own sense of style to proceedings. The folks at 34BigThings decided that the Redout universe was so strong in fact that they would create an arcade space shooting prequel.
Having appeared first on Apple Arcade, Redout: Space Assault is now making the jump to console and PC, and while it doesn’t revolutionise its new franchise genre, there’s enough fun to be found here for fans short on rail shooters.

Having Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto as your father must be quite the experience, being constantly reminded of his success and fame wherever you go, but it also means you ve probably had countless Nintendo games to play over the years, right?
Well, as it happens, Miyamoto s kids aren t just fans of Nintendo s work, but are also pretty keen on Sega, once the Big N s largest rival. Can you imagine being the creator of Mario and coming home to find your kids playing Sonic instead?
Nintendo Creative Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto does not do interviews especially often, but he has given a lengthy and insightful one to The New Yorker, revealing his perspective on various aspects of his career, as well as some lighter details. Regarding the latter, he explained that his children never really played the “My dad made Mario!” card growing up, as they just didn’t really think much of it. His kids did enjoy video games though, and in fact, according to Miyamoto, “They played a lot of Sega games, too, by the way.”
