Jacqueline Brule

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jacqueline Brule at the age of 70. She was born March 19, 1950 in Geraldton, Ontario to Laurette and John McAdam. Jackie wore many hats throughout her life. She was a mechanic, chef, artisan, painter, visionary, nurse and carpenter. She was an explorer and avid traveler, visiting every province and most of the territories across Canada. In 1992 she attended Bible College for a few years before heading to NWT with her then husband, Mike Brule. While there she worked for 15 years at Aven Manor in Yellowknife. Also during that time, she went on various mission trips with her church. She returned to school, at the age of 50, to complete her nursing degree and become an RN. Jackie moved to Thunder Bay in 2012, working at Grandview Lodge and Hogarth Riverview. She retired in 2017.

Mieczyslaw Kalaska

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Mieczyslaw (“Mietek” or “Mike”) Kalaska, 97 years of age, on January 5 2021, after a brief stay in hospital. He leaves in mourning his wife Gertrude (Niewiadomy), three children, John (Constance Reid), Richard (Wendy Orr), and Mary (Marvin Wrigley), 6 grandchildren, Erin, Kyle, Colin, Kiara, Adriana, and Chad, and one great-granddaughter, Hannah, who he called “Hania” and who was his greatest source of joy during his final 7 years. He also leaves behind many family members in his native Poland. He was predeceased by one son, Stanley, in 2008, as well as family members in Poland.

William Dutchak

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of William David Dutchak on January 12, 2021. Thanks to the loving care he received from his son, David, and daughter-in-law, Deneen, Bill was able to spend the last days of his life at home where he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and dog Marty. Bill was born on August 7, 1931 in Port Arthur to William and Anne Dutchak. Bill was the youngest of 4 children, along with big brothers Nick and Mike and sister Dora. He grew up in the North End, where his family owned a large lot of land which they farmed and raised animals. They later built and operated Dutchak’s Confectionary on the corner of Shuniah and Huron Street (the smiley face house).
