Lake of the Woods District Hospital is celebrating the first-ever spinal fusion surgeries performed at the facility.
The first operations were done on March 22nd in partnership with the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre through the expansion of the spinal surgery program.
The local hospital says the procedure is most easily explained as the permanent joining of two or more vertebrae of the spine.
They tell us that not only was this the first time for the surgery in Kenora but that it was also the first time in Canada that a non-teaching centre and hospital of its size hosted the procedure.
