Volli Soer - Obituary - Thunder Bay - TBNewsWatch com

Mr. Volli Soer, aged 83 years, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice on July 3, 2021. Born in Petseri, Estonia on October 15, 1937, the family had to exit quickly because of the war and immigrated to Sweden in 1945 and later Sherbrooke, Quebec in 1949, all at the tender age of 12 with his parents, where his mother sadly passed away. Later in 1953 he moved to Port Arthur with his father and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1958. He also obtained his Private Pilot Licence on September 15, 1959, one of his proudest moments. In 1960 he married Frances (nee Ferguson) on September 9 and they had two daughters.

One of three accused in May 2020 shooting incident sentenced

THUNDER BAY - One of three individuals accused in a 2020 shooting incident that sent one person to hospital with serious injuries has been sentenced to five years in custody. Jacob Wattie, 25, of Thunder Bay was initially charged with attempted murder following an incident on May 3 when police were notified of an individual who crashed into a barricade at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. The individual’s injuries were said to be serious and the investigation determined they were sustained prior to the incident at the hospital and were the result of firearm. As the investigation continued, Wattie was arrested on May 11 and charged with attempted murder, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm with knowledge that its possession is unauthorized, prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of breach of probation, and two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.
