Thunder Bay regional hospital to start receiving COVID-19 vaccine over the next two weeks
The province on Friday announced the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be distributed to the additional sites over the next two weeks, with the Thunder Bay hospital selected to test travel logistics in northern Ontario and to support the administration of the vaccine to Indigenous and remote communities.

THUNDER BAY - There are more than 100 active cases of COVID-19 in the district, but public health officials say it is unlikely the district will move into the red classification under the province’s response framework.
“I am not aware that the government is planning to move us into red,” said Dr. Janet DeMille, medical officer of health with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.

The medical officer of health for the Thunder Bay District considers the local COVID-19 situation to be precarious.
There have been 483 cases of COVID-19 in the district during the pandemic, with 366 of those reported since the start of November. The district is currently in the third-tier orange level of the province s pandemic response framework, after having been in the lowest level at this time one month ago.

The most recent declaration came at Holy Saviour Catholic School in Marathon.
Officials with the Superior North Catholic District School Board and the Thunder Bay District Health Unit say the impacted individuals are no longer considered to be at elevated risk.
They add there were no additional cases and no evidence of additional spread within the school.
In Geraldton, the Health Unit originally declared the outbreak at the John Owen Evans Residence after one staff member tested positive.
Since that staff member went into isolation, the Health Unit hasn’t found any new cases at the home.

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced 16 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 Friday, with half of those cases associated with an ongoing outbreak at the Southbridge Roseview long-term care home.
All but one of the cases announced Friday involve individuals in Thunder Bay and the surrounding areas, which includes Oliver Paipoonge, Neebing, Gillies, Shuniah, Conmee, O Connor, and some unorganized territories.
