KARACHI: Ever since FIFA appointed a Normalisation Committee for the Pakistan Football Federation in September 2019, one man has been consistently mentioned as having had a big say on the decisions taken by the NC.
Mohsen Gilani has been called the orchestrator, the influencer, the ring leader to whose tune the NC has danced. He has maintained a low profile, working behind the scenes in Pakistan football. Until now, of course.
On Friday, Mohsen met Dr. Fehmida Mirza, the federal minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, who for the last month has been working to resolve Pakistan football’s latest crisis which has resulted in a FIFA suspension.

ISLAMABAD: Ashfaq Hussain Shah called on the Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Dr. Fehmida Mirza in her office on Thursday during which he shared the proposals suggested by his group to end the ongoing football crisis in the country.
Pakistan has been suspended by FIFA after Ashfaq and his group of football officials, who came to power after a Pakistan Football Federation election held by the Supreme Court which was not accepted by the global football body, took over the headquarters of the country’s football governing body from the PFF Normalisation Committee which was appointed by FIFA to hold fresh elections.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has convened an emergent meeting of its General Council on May 3 as an overwhelming majority of the sports federations were taken by surprise by ‘The News’ story appeared on Thursday, revealing the government’s plan regarding formation of a commission to conduct federations’ elections in future.
The news, which spread like jungle fire, forced the POA to convene General Council’s meeting to consider, among other things, the threats to autonomy of national sports federations and its impact on future sports events.
The POA in a letter addressed to all the affiliated federations stated that an emergent virtual meeting through Zoom has been convened on May 3 under the chairmanship of POA president Lt Gen (r) Syed Arif Hasan.
Govt closes down flagship project of Pictorial Health Warning Reforms

ISLAMABAD: The government has closed down the flagship project of Pictorial Health Warning Reforms under the supervision of Tobacco Control Cell (TCC) thus relieving Dr Zia, who is considered as staunch campaigner of anti-tobacco and anti-illicit cigarettes in Pakistan.
The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (MONHRSC) made a decision regarding the Tobacco Control Cell whereby the project “Pictorial Health Warning Reforms” is closing on 31-05-2021.
The official sources said that the closing down of this important project was aimed at sacking of Dr Zia, who took a number of initiatives, including proposed Health Levy that made the tobacco industry highly uncomfortable.
