Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday held an important meeting with the party s senior leaders over dissenting Congress leaders who were disgruntled with the party’s organisation, and wrote a letter months ago seeking an effective, full-time leadership.
The Congress leader Pawan Kumar Bansal said that the discussion was mainly centered around strengthening the party.
Bansal said the process for holding organisational polls, including the party president’s post and the Congress Working Committee (CWC) has already been set in motion and the central election authority (CEA) is working on it.
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are also present at the meeting of the party leaders underway at party s Interim President Sonia Gandhi s residence. Earlier today, Congress leaders Ashok Gehlot, Ghulam Nabi Azad and others arrived at 10 Janpath for a meeting with Sonia Gandhi. Other Congress leaders who arrived for a meeting are Anand Sharma, BS Hooda, Ambika Soni and P Chidambaram.After months of infighting, this is the first time Gandhis are meeting the rebels. The dissent letter writers who are present in the meeting include, Gulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Vivek Tankha, Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tiwari and Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

New Delhi, Dec 18: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday met a group of leaders, including some who had written to her seeking complete organisational overhaul, where they discussed ways to strengthen the party at all levels and it was decided to hold conclaves similar to Panchmarhi and Shimla to chalk out the way ahead.

The five-hour meeting, which also included some of Sonia Gandhi s close associates, was significant as it was the first effort by the Congress leadership for a rapprochement with the letter-writers who had raised questions over the leadership.
