People are reminded that the walleye protected slot limit is 18-26 inches. Trespass issues and nuisance-animal complaints were handled throughout the week as well. A youth firearms safety class was conducted in the Littlefork area, with 15 students receiving their certification. Enforcement action taken over the last week involved illegal-length walleyes, overlimits and license issues. CO Curtis Simonson (International Falls 2) reports having a busy week working aquatic invasive species enforcement, recreational boating activity, and checking anglers on Rainy Lake.

A report of a mat of floating cattails that are blocking the main channel of the Rat Root River near the Rat Root Lake was investigated. Animal-related complaints and wetland issues were also looked into. CO Curtis Simonson (International Falls 2) reports checking anglers and monitoring recreational boating activity on Rainy Lake. ATV activity was monitored in the area as well. Enforcement action taken this week was for no license in possession; not having a Type IV throwable device; operating ATVs without headlights; and youth operation without helmets.

Conservation officers remind public to leave fawns, other young animals alone

Time was spent working ATV complaints in the area along with answering questions regarding the special regulations for walleyes on Rainy Lake. Enforcement action taken this week was for possessing multiple illegal-length walleyes on Rainy Lake. Simonson urges people to take a look at the regulations book before heading out fishing and to call if you have questions about something specific that you can’t find.

Minnesota conservation officers busy with off-road vehicle enforcement

Fishing, boat and water safety, and invasive species enforcement were the main focuses of the contacts. Enforcement action for the past week included no angling license in possession, failure to display watercraft registration and failure to validate a sturgeon tag. CO Curtis Simonson (International Falls 2) reports working the Rainy River throughout the past week checking sturgeon anglers. He also monitored beaver-trapping activity.
