JOS, NIGERIA - A girls’ education rights group, the Malala Fund, says most of Nigeria s out-of-school children during the pandemic are girls, and that the gap with boys is widening.
Joy Pam, 13, has had to wash the plates, cook the family meals, and sweep the compound daily since the pandemic forced schools to shut down in March.
Even though schools have reopened now, she still must continue with her chores at home even though her classmates are back at school.
The CODE’s Legal Counsel, Nnanna Oketa, said in a release in Abuja that in 2017, Babayemi transitioned from a five-year day-to-day role in the organisation to spend more time to support the governing board for CODE.
Oketa said that Mr. Oludotun believes in the progression of CODE and the quest to be a renowned global movement reputable for holding the government to account, advocating participatory governance and mobilizing young people for social change.
Speaking on the development, CODE’s Founder, Hamzat Lawal said, “The board and the CODE team have benefited from his leadership and vision in driving the core principles of the Organisation. I am specifically grateful for Babayemi’s friendship and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
