Broadband and connectivity are becoming engines of economic growth in Pakistan as already proven in other parts of the world. The theme emerged from the online seminar on Urban Connectivity Solutions for an Inclusive Digital Economy organised by Facebook, Internet Service Providers Association of Pakistan (ISPAK) and TelecomInfraProject (TIP), in which a large number of national and international industry and academia experts participated. The panelists discussed various challenges and opportunities within the country to develop robust connectivity in urban areas, including Facebook’s recent investment to bring backbone fiber to the region.

Tk 946cr project to beef up rural internet network
The government is going to expand the Internet Protocol (IP) network of the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) with an aim to expand broadband network to upazila and union levels.
The development comes as a part of the government s efforts to meet the country s growing data demand.
The Tk 945.90 crore project will also enhance the capacity of the state-owned company, enabling it to install and modernise the IP equipment in each district, upazila and union parishad as well as increase the capacity of its international internet gateways (IIGs) and national internet exchanges (NIXs).
DearSA removes director Rob Hutchinson over alleged financial irregularities

Cape Town â The battle for control over popular public participation platform DearSA rages on, with the campaignâs board resolving to remove Rob Hutchinson as a director, alleging financial irregularities.
In a statement this week, directors Sandra Dickson, Ted Blom and Mike Heyns said they had with immediate effect dissociated themselves from any activity by Hutchinson on behalf of the non-profit company (NPC) as well as the dearsouthafrica.co.za website.
âThis is a direct result of issues around the management of the NPCâs finances, bank account and financial irregularities. The bank account was frozen until such time the matter is resolved,â they said.
