Indianapolis travel agent s clients on EU travel: When can we go?

Apr 27, 2021 / 10:41 PM EST INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) The European Union is set to allow American tourists to visit the continent this summer but that’s only if they can prove that they are fully vaccinated. Travel industry experts say the announcement signals good things to come for those who have been itching to use those air miles. With travel opening back up as vaccination rates rise, travelers are warned that it will still be a while before things are completely back to normal. Before the pandemic, Europe was a popular destination for U.S. travelers, especially out of Indianapolis. “Honeymooners, families trying to make memories and see things that they can’t see here in our country,” says Indianapolis travel agent Suz Haire.

Police union leader blasts prosecutor for not using red flag law on FedEx shooter

Apr 22, 2021 / 08:34 PM EST INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) The president of the local police union said Thursday that Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department gave the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office everything it needed to put Brandon Hole on a “red flag” list. Rick Snyder, who leads Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 86, said putting Hole on the “red flag” list would have kept him from buying more guns before he shot and killed eight people at a FedEx facility near Indianapolis International Airport on April 15. Synder said Prosecutor Ryan Mears dropped a very important ball. “Unfortunately, the lack of action by the Marion County prosecutor prevented a court hearing which could have resulted in not only the retention of the firearm in question but also could have prohibited the suspect from owning, renting, receiving transfer of or possessing any other firearms.”

Greenwood, Sikh community honor 8 people killed in FedEx mass shooting

Apr 22, 2021 / 11:49 PM EST GREENWOOD, Ind (WISH) City officials joined the Sikh community on Thursday night to honor the eight people killed in the April 15 FedEx shooting with a vigil at the Surina Square Park Amphitheater. A week ago, the eight people went to work and never returned home. Now, the focus is healing. Many Sikh people said Thursday that they don’t look at the FedEx shooting as a hate crime, but some do. Even those who don’t still feel unwanted. “We’re the fifth-largest religion in the world yet no one here really knows about us. Our religion isn’t taught in the school system. Some of these young kids look at us as Muslim and, after 9/11, we face that. No matter what you are, if you’re a Sikh, Muslim, Jew, Christian, it doesn’t matter. We are all human,” said Sundeep Singh.

FedEx employees return to work for first time since mass shooting

13 News is told about 90 percent of the workers at the facility are from the Sikh community. Four of the eight people killed were Sikhs. About 50 of the roughly 200 employees are members of the Indy West Sikh Temple. Might be a few people will quit from there and they will just leave and stay home,” said Avtar Singh Bassi, a leader in the Indy West Sikh Temple.   He said many people in the Sikh community are nervous and scared after what happened to their people, such as Jaswinder Singh, of Greenwood.  Credit: Sikh Temple 68-year-old Jaswinder Singh was one of four members of the Sikh community who were killed in a mass shooting at an Indianapolis FedEx facility.
