Indianapolis police are investigating after a person was found dead outside a house on the south side of the city, police said Tuesday.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 3600 block of Carson Avenue near the intersection with National Avenue about 10:30 a.m. to find a person unresponsive outside an abandoned residence, according to IMPD Officer Genae Cook.
Cook said the person was pronounced dead at the scene. Homicide detectives responded to the area, and the incident is being investigated as a death investigation.

An Indianapolis police officer and a suspect in a separate shooting were wounded in an exchange of gunfire following a vehicle chase Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
