Indianola s new wastewater treatment facility is moving forward as the city adds new contractor s for the site s construction.
The Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) project was originally budgeted for $45.6 million dollars. The project is currently about $44,000 under the expected cost, according to Rick Graves, the Indianola Water Pollution Control superintendent.
The new facility will be one of the first wastewater treatment plants in the state to implement the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy aimed at reducing the discharge of nitrogen and phosphorus into receiving streams, city officials said in a news release. Indianola City Manager Ryan Waller said he is aware of only a handful of other cities whose facilities meet these standards.
