France to join India s Indo-Pacific oceans initiative; aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to exercise with Indian Navy

Even as India  and France strengthen ties, Paris has agreed to join New Delhi's Indo-Pacific Oceans’ Initiative (IPOI).  IPOI was proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the East Asia Summit in November 2019. The development comes even as French Foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian is on an India visit. Earlier in the day, he met India's External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar. He will also be going to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) headquarters in Bengaluru.

Astronaut-Elects For ISRO’s Gaganyaan Mission Return From Russia, Indian Training Module To Begin Soon Photo by Glavkosmos The four Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots, now the employees of the Indian Space Research Organisation, have completed their training for the Gaganyaan mission in Russia and will soon start with the mission-specific training that will happen in multiple Indian cities. ISRO Chairman Dr K Sivan confirmed that the astronauts had returned recently, according to a report published in Times of India. Training in Russia was generic, and their Gaganyaan-specific training will be done in Chennai and Bengaluru, Sivan added. The training for conditions and reactions specific to Gaganyaan will be held in Bengaluru, and the buoyancy and water survival test will happen at the National Institute of Ocean Technology, NIOT Chennai.

India and Central Asian nation Kazakhstan are keen on further widening defence partnership which includes joint production as well as co-development. Both India and Kazakhstan have inked a Strategic Partnership treaty in 2009, and a Defence and Military Technical cooperation 2015. The two countries have several projects in hydrocarbon, education, pharmaceutical and other sectors, says Prof Rajan Kumar, School of International Studies, JNU.
