Self-taught whizkid from Chennai wins accolades for developing apps ANI | Updated: Dec 18, 2020 18:08 IST Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], December 18 (ANI): As the COVID-19 pandemic forced schoolchildren to stay back home for months, this young boy in Chennai utilised the time to teach himself coding, in turn developing apps, that too solely through free resources on the internet. Over the last few months, Pratik, a student of Class 7, has managed to create alternatives for widely used applications like Zoom, Windy, and even Google Maps. This won him several awards and over 100 certificates, including several medals from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

ISRO successfully launches its 42nd communication satellite aboard PSLV rocket The CMS-01 satellite is replacing the ageing GSAT-12 satellite that was launched 15 July, 2011, with a mission life of seven years but ended up working for nine years Dec 18, 2020 09:58:24 IST The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its 42nd communication satellite CMS-01 on Thursday, at 3.41 pm IST. It lifted off into the cloudy skies from the Second Launch Pad (SLP) of Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota. Initially scheduled to launch on 8 December and again to 14 December, it was pushed back due to bad weather and the possibility of hurricanes. The CMS-01 satellite will be the first in a new series of communication satellites that India will be launching after the GSAT and INSAT series.

OneWeb, a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications operator co-owned by Bharti Global and the UK government, launched 36 satellites on Friday from the Vostochny cosmodrome in Russia, paving the way for launching high-speed internet services in key global markets from late-2021, and in India by mid-2022. “Today’s launch is one of many steps we have taken to operationalise one of the world’s first LEO constellations,” Bharti Enterprises chairman Sunil Mittal, who was recently named OneWeb’s executive chairman, said in an official statement.
