On this day in 1971, the Pakistani aggressors surrendered to the Mukti Bahini and the Indian Army. Independent sovereign Bangladesh was born. Those heroic martyrs are being commemorated today.
A special function was organized at Fort William, the headquarters of the Indian Army s Eastern Command, to commemorate the day. Goc-in-C Eastern Command Anil Chauhan paid tribute to the martyrs. He recalled the joint contribution of the freedom fighters and the Indian Army and appealed to all to remember this war and pass it on to the next generation.
