Armed forces get new faces in top hierarchy Abhishek Bhalla The Indian armed forces has seen a major reshuffle with a number of new faces in the top hierarchy that includes a new deputy chief of Navy and commander-in-chiefs of two commands among others. Lt Gen Manoj Pande took over the critical eastern command of the Indian Army based in Kolkata. He was replaced by Lt Gen Ajai Singh as the commander in chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC). The ANC is crucial for the military s planning as it s the only tri-service of the country and the model for synergy based on which theaterisation of the country s Army, Navy and Air Force capabilities is being planned.

It may be recalled that over 1,200 DANTAK personnel laid down their lives while constructing important infrastructure in Bhutan.

Lt Gen Katiyar takes over as GOC 1 Corps

747 Tribune News Service Chandigarh, April 5 Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar has been appointed as the General Officer Commanding of 1 Corps, a strike formation responsible for undertaking offensive operations against both Pakistan and China. Prior to this appointment, he was posted as Director General Staff Duties at Army Headquarters. He took over from Lt Gen CP Cariappa today.  An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Lt Gen Katiyar was commissioned in 23rd Battalion of the Rajput Regiment in June 1986, which he later commanded along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir as well as in Arunachal Pradesh. He also commanded an infantry brigade along the western borders and a mountain division.
