Indian Navy activates first Dhruv Mk III unit

Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 323 ‘Harriers’ has been formally commissioned as the first unit to operate the latest variant of the indigenously developed Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), otherwise known as the Dhruv Mk III.
A formal commissioning ceremony for the Squadron was held on April 19 at Indian Naval Station Hansa, Goa-Dabolim. Various senior officials attended the event, including Minister of State for Defence Hon’ble Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Shripad Naik and Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Naval Command.

Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 323, the first unit of the indigenously built ALH Mk III aircraft, was commissioned into the Indian Navy by Union Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik at INS Hansa, Goa on Monday (19 April).
The squadron will operate three state-of-the-art ALH Mk III, a multirole helicopter with Shakti engine manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
The Mk III version of the ALH has an all glass cockpit and will be used for search and rescue, special operations and coastal surveillance.

Indian Naval Ship Suvarna, whilst on surveillance patrol in the Arabian Sea, encountered a fishing vessel with suspicious movements. To investigate the vessel, the ship’s team conducted boarding and search operation, which led to the seizure of more than 300 Kgs of narcotics substances, the official statement said.
