After Hyderabad, now lion in Uttar Pradesh s Etawah Safari Park tests COVID-19 positive
The chain of transmission of the virus could have taken place through any asymptomatic human carrier, probably caretakers, working at the park, Dr Singh said.

BAREILLY: A lion at the Etawah Safari Park has tested positive for COVID-19 and another was suspected to have caught the infection, three days after eight Asiatic lions in Hyderabad were found infected with the virus. Sixteen samples of 14 Asiatic lions at the Etawah Safari Park had been sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) for RT-PCR tests for COVID-19. On Thursday, one lion tested positive for the virus, while another was considered as a suspected case. The remaining 12 lions have tested negative, IVRI Joint Director Dr KP Singh said.

Three days after eight Asiatic lions in Hyderabad tested positive for COVID-19, the Delhi zoo on Friday said it has sent samples of some animals, including a lion, to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute in Bareilly “as a precautionary measure”.
Zoo Director Ramesh Pandey said all protocols are being followed as per the guidelines of the Central Zoo Authority.
“We are vigilant and doing the needful. Samples of some animals, including a lion, have been sent to IVRI. Nothing adverse has been informed or reported so far. Detailed reports are awaited,” he said in a statement.
Two lionesses of Etawah safari park test positive for COVID-19
Etawah, May 7 (UNI) Two lionesses at the Etawah safari park have been found infected from COVID-19, the director of the park said here on Friday.
The samples of four-year-old lioness Gauri and nine-year-old Jennifer were sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) Bareilly and the reports came out to be positive, the director, K K Singh, said.
Both the lionesses were having an appetite loss and fever. The blood and stool samples of the lionesses were sent to the IVRI early this week.
