The mural, located on Church Street in the city, is called Marguerite d’Youville and Her Mission and was painted in 1992 by mural artist Pierre Hardy.

A press release issued by the City of Pembroke on June 30 stated that concerns have been expressed by residents and groups, “…due to the objectionable historical nature of the Indigenous imagery shown.”
“It is crucial for us to be respectful of the concerns raised regarding this particular mural and the symbols it represents in our efforts towards reconciliation,” Mayor Mike LeMay said, speaking on behalf of council.
