Nora Mabie, Great Falls Tribune © PETER HAMLIN/THE ASSOCIATED PRESS As COVID-19 vaccines arrive in Montana, many tribal members are left wondering when their vulnerable communities will be immunized. As Native American tribes are sovereign nations, they and their health care providers have the option to receive COVID-19 vaccines through state or federal channels.  The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, Blackfeet Nation and Little Shell Tribe elected to receive their allocations through the state. All five of the state s urban Indian health centers and all Indian Health Service (IHS) sites chose to receive their allocation from IHS, a federal agency, according to the governor s office.

First COVID-19 vaccines arrive in Montana, several Great Falls providers awaiting shipments Skylar Rispens, Great Falls Tribune COVID-19 vaccine distribution begins in United States Replay Video UP NEXT Due to a system upgrade over the weekend with the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, no new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Monday.  But that doesn t mean there weren t any new cases and daily totals impacted by the system upgrade will be reported in the following days according to DPHHS.  The upgrade required the system to be shut down all day, so no cases could be reported to the state for today s update, wrote DPHHS on its website. Cases will be added in the coming days as local public health departments catch up with a data entry.
