The saga of Prime Minister Imran Khans absence from a security briefing given by the Inter-Services Intelligence to parliamentary leaders took a new twist on Friday as Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry claimed that the premier had not attended the briefing to accommodate Leader of Opposition in National Assembly and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif.
“The prime minister was scheduled to attend the national security huddle, but the opposition leader [Shahbaz Sharif] had conveyed to the speaker that if [Prime Minister Imran Khan] came to the briefing, he would not attend,” Fawad told a private TV channel. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Thursday said it was participating as observer in the Sea Breeze naval exercise hosted by Ukraine along with the Israeli personnel and clarified that its principled position on the Palestine issue remained unchanged.
“We have consistently called for two-state solutions with pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds al Sharif as a capital of Palestinian state,” said the Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri while addressing the weekly news briefing here. Chaudhri said Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in the Afghan peace process.
Pakistan has worked closely with the US to achieve durable peace and stability in Afghanistan and will continue to cooperate with the US and the international community in this regard, said Chaudhri.

An in-camera session of the parliament was held Thursday wherein Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed briefed the political leadership on external and internal security issues and regional challenges, with special focus on Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Afghanistan.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan Thursday praised the Communist Party of China (CPC) for its unique model, calling it an alternative to Western democracy.
“Until now, we had been told that the best way for societies to improve was through Western democracy. However, CPC introduced an alternative system and they have beaten all Western electoral democracies in the way they have highlighted merit in society,” he pointed out.
He said a society only succeeds when it has systems in place for holding the ruling elite accountable and ensuring meritocracy: “Until now, the feeling was that electoral democracy is the best way to bring leaders on merit and hold them accountable.
