The world would witness a surge in COVID-19 cases, nearly five times severe than what we are witnessing today, said a weekly report of the European Union (EU) on Friday. The report has predicted the threshold of the deadly surge would start around August 1, report DW news. The report noted that the highly transmissible Delta variant and the relaxation plan of European countries would be held responsible for the upcoming surge. A decrease of 1,619 had been recorded in the number of active cases in a span of 24 hours.
India recorded 38,949 new Covid-19 cases, which took the infection tally to 31,026,829, while the death toll reached 412,531 with 542 more fatalities, according to Union health ministry data updated on Friday.
The active cases have declined to 430,422 and comprise 1.39 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 97.28 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed.
It said that a decrease of 1,619 had been recorded in the number of active cases in a span of 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the national active caseload declined to 4,24,025 while the country’s recovery rate rose to 97.31 per cent on Saturday.
According to the Union Health Ministry data updated at 8 am today, the active Covid-19 cases comprise 1.36 per cent of the total infections and the active caseload decreased by 6,397 in a span of 24 hours.
