Image Source: IANS News New Delhi, July 6 : With 34,703 fresh Covid cases, India on Tuesday recorded lowest spike since March 17, said the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, as only 553 deaths were reported in the biggest relief since April 6. This comes just four days after the country crossed the grim four-lakh-deaths milestone due to Covid. On May 23, India witnessed the highest fatalities with 4,454 deaths in 24 hours at the peak of the second wave. The very first death in the country due to the pandemic was reported last March.

COVID-19 recovered vaccinated individuals more protected from Delta variant The B.1.617 lineage of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), first detected in October 2020, has led to new outbreaks of the infection and new waves of the pandemic. This infectious lineage has resulted in the generation of sub-lineages such as B.1.617.1 (Kappa), B.1.617.2 (Delta) and B.1.617.3. Within these variants, the Delta variant has been found to be the most dominant as well as being 60% more transmissible than the Alpha (B.111.7) variant. It has been characterized as a variant of concern by the World Health Organisation (WHO). This variant of SARS-CoV-2 has affected 92 countries, with the Indian population suffering the most, resulting in the second wave of the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic that has affected millions of Indian citizens.

India reports 34,703 new cases in last 24 hours; lowest in 111 days ANI | Updated: Jul 06, 2021 10:04 IST New Delhi [India], July 6 (ANI): India reported 34,703 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest in 111 days, informed the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday. With this, India s active caseload of COVID cases has declined to 4,64,357, which is the lowest in 101 days. The active cases constitute 1.52 percent of the total cases. Total recoveries touched 2,97,52,294, including 51,864 patients who recovered during the last 24 hours. As per the ministry, the daily recoveries continued to outnumber the daily new cases for the 54th consecutive day. With this, the recovery rate has increased to 97.17 percent.
