New Delhi: Breakthrough cases and COVID-19 recovered individuals with one or two doses of vaccine have relatively higher protection against Delta variant in comparison to those administered either one or two doses of Covishield, a study stated.
Prior vaccination results in less severe disease against subsequent infection provide evidence that both humoral and cellular immune response play an important role in protection, according to the study which is yet to be peer-reviewed and was posted on bioRxiv preprint server on Friday.

According to the ministry, the new phase of universalisation of COVID-19 vaccination commenced from June 21. More than 57.36 lakh (57,36,924) vaccine doses have been administered today, as per the 7 pm provisional report. 28,33,691 vaccine doses were administered as the first dose and 3,29,889 vaccine doses given as the second dose in the age group 18-44 years today. Cumulatively, 99,434,862 persons in the age group 18-44 years across 37 States/UTs have received their first dose and a total of 2,712,794 have received their second dose since the start of Phase-3 of the vaccination drive.
India records 43,071 new COVID-19 cases, 955 deaths in 24 hours

India saw a single-day rise of 43,071 new coronavirus infections, raising its tally to 3,05,45,433, while the death toll climbed to 4,02,005 with 955 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Sunday.
India s active cases also dropped further by 10,183 and it now stands at 485,350. While, 52,299 people recovered, pushing the total number of recoveries to 29,658,078, the Union Health Ministry data showed. The national COVID-19 recovery rate improved to 97.09 percent.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.34 percent. It has been less than 5 percent for 27 consecutive days, the ministry said.

CHENNAI: The State launched a drive on Saturday to vaccinate pregnant women following approval by the Indian Council of Medical Research. According to a statement from Health Department, Chepauk-Triplicane MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin kicked off the drive at a UPHC in Cuddalore.
Health Minister Ma Subramanian said that the drive has begun all over the State. “We have used more than 1.5 crore vaccines given by the Centre. We are also working on spreading awareness to bring more people to the vaccination centres,” the Minister said.
India reports 43,071 new cases, over 59,000 recoveries in 24 hours, 35 cr vaccinated.

The total active cases of COVID-19 in India have now mounted to 4,85,350, the data showed. The total death toll in the country is now at 4,02,005.Â
The first death due to Covid-19 pandemic in India was reported last year in March.Â
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 41,82,54,953 samples have been tested up to July 03 for Covid-19. Of these 18,38,490 samples were tested on Saturday.
