UDUPI: District administration has made arrangements to facilitate smooth counting of votes cast for gram panchayats in two phases – on December 22 and 27 respectively – at seven counting centres in as many taluks in the district on Wednesday.
Counting will start at 8am and only the candidate or his/her agent will be allowed entry into the counting centre, deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha announced here on Tuesday.
In this action, the police have made more than 2,400 arrests.
The maximum number of liquor cases were registered in Ahmednagar district with 658 cases. The police seized illicit liquor, chemicals used to prepare it, country liquor and IMFL, all worth Rs 12.83 lakh. As many as 658 people were arrested for sale, transport and manufacture of hooch, country liquor, Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).
The Nandurbar police registered 572 cases, in which, 573 arrests were made and, liquor and other articles worth Rs 37.87 lakh were seized. The Jalgaon police registered 538 cases, for which, 506 arrests were made and seized liquor worth Rs 26.03 lakh.
As many as 412 cases were registered in Nashik rural, while 409 arrests have been and liquor worth Rs 53.48 lakh have been seized.

Raid on illicit liquor manufacturing unit at Kadma Officials seized 40 litres of spirit, different Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) labels, corks, sealing machines and various kinds of colouring materials
Acting on a tip off, a team of Jharkhand Excise Department’s Jamshedpur office raided a small illicit liquor manufacturing unit in a densely-populated area in Kadma on Monday morning.
The operation was being run from a residential house in Green Park residential area under Kadma thana. The team arrested a 55-year-old woman as part of the racket, but the man who ran the unit managed to escape.
