New Delhi: Prof Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology (DST), stressed that as the future throws challenges at greater speed, the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) should play the role of think tank for the development and progress of country and to help common men reap the benefits of science, technology and innovation, at the 35th foundation day of INAE.
“Some of the major challenges of the future are related to sustainable development, climate, energy, role of intelligent machines, internet of things, industry 4.0 and society 5.0 and man’s future competition with machines for which we have to look for future technologies,” Professor Sharma said at the online celebration of the foundation day which also marked the inauguration of India’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by the institution on April 20, 2021.
UoH scholar’s thesis selected for Innovative Student Project Award

The Ph.D. thesis of Dr. Jhansi Jadav associated with the School of Engineering Sciences and Technology, University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been selected for Innovative Student Project Award-2020 at doctoral level by the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE).
The thesis is on “Assessment of precipitation, deformation and fracture behaviour of Superni 263 Ni base superalloy under tensile and low cycle fatigue conditions.”
Dr. Jhansi said the results that are part of this investigation have direct relevance for the development of Advanced Ultra-Supercritical (AUSC) Power Plant materials and high temperature turbine materials that the country is putting efforts towards achieving self reliance and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
3 women get INAE Woman Engineer of the Year award

Chennai, Dec 21 : Three women were awarded the Woman Engineer of the Year 2020 prize under the category academia, research and development (R&D) and industry by the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) on Monday.
The three winners are Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Director, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata (academia category); Lalithambika V.R., Director, Directorate of Human Space Programme, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) (R&D); and Dheepa Srinivasan, Chief Engineer, Pratt and Whitney, R&D Centre United Technologies Corporation India Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru (Industry). The award function was held on Monday in a virtual mode. I am proud and happy as it is a very prestigious award, Lalithambika told IANS.
