Singapore Economy Posts Surprise Growth in First Quarter The 40th Scientific Expedition to Antarctica (40-ISEA) hosted by the Ministry of Earth Sciences successfully returned to Cape Town on April 10, 2021, after completing a journey of about 12,000 nautical miles in 94 days, including stopovers. This achievement concludes four successful decades of India s scientific endeavour in the continent of peace and cooperation. The 40-ISEA team comprised of Indian scientists, engineers, doctors, and technicians began their journey from the Mormugao Port of Goa to Antarctica on January 7, 2021. The team reached its destination station Bharati on February 27, 2021, and Maitri on March 8, 2021. Bharati and Maitri are India s permanent research base stations in Antarctica.

The 40-ISEA comprised Indian scientists, engineers, doctors, and technicians, who began their journey from the Mormugao Port of Goa to Antarctica on 7 January, 2021. Coastal strip of responsibility extends upto 75 km from the coast line.  India Meteorological Department (IMD) has developed state of art tools for cyclone warning services, and has demonstrated its capability to provide early warning for Cyclones with high precision and has earned accolades globally and nationally for very effective state of art early warning system for monitoring and prediction of cyclones. The cyclone forecast accuracy has significantly improved in recent years as has been demonstrated during cyclones Phailin (2013), Hudhud (2014), Vardah (2016), Titli (2018), Fani& Bulbul (2019) and Amphan, Nisarga&Nivar (2020). During recent years, the loss of life due to cyclone has been drastically reduced being limited to double digit figures.

INCOIS to go for airline mapping of ocean floor Updated: Updated: To take the help of National Remote Sensing Centre for study Share Article To take the help of National Remote Sensing Centre for study The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) is planning to take the help of the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) for airline mapping of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshwadeep to get a better picture of the ocean floor, also called ‘bathymetric’ study. “NRSC has already done a similar high resolution topographic Airborne Laser Terrain Mapping (ALTM) for entire coastal areas of the country and we are in the process of integrating the data for a 3D multi-hazard mapping of both the east and west coastline for a more precise picture of the ocean floor,” said director T. Srinivasa Kumar, in an exclusive interaction.
