Indian Institute of Technology across the country have conducted IIT Placements 2020 virtually. This year despite being under the pandemic situation, Phase 1 placement ended with 30 candidates of IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Delhi getting more than 1 crore pay packages. The top recruiters include Samsung, Sony, Microsoft among others.
Samsung is reportedly said to have made at least 18 job offers this year with over Rs 1 crore packages across different IITs. It has made around seven offers at IIT Bombay, six at IIT Kanpur, and five at IIT Delhi. Sony Corporation has also made job offers of above Rs 1 crore to candidates from IIT Bom

An expert panel has recommended that Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) should be exempted from caste reservations for faculty as they are institutes of national importance established under the Act of Parliament.
An eight member committee submitted a report to additional secretary, department of higher education, Ministry of Education (MoE), on July 17, proposing that the institutes be included in the list of Institutes of Excellence which are exempted from caste-based reservations, according to the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers Cadre) Act (CEI Act) of 2019.

The Space Commission has approved a proposal to declare the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Valiamala, as an Institute of National Importance akin to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), K. Sivan, chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has said.
The proposal will be forwarded to the Cabinet shortly, Mr. Sivan, who is also secretary, Space Commission, said. He was addressing the eighth convocation of IIST via videoconference on Wednesday.
