Guwahati,: Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) researchers have developed smart window materials for automatic climate control of buildings. Dr. Debabrata Sikdar, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, along with his research scholar, Mr. Ashish Kumar Chowdhary from IIT Guwahati, have designed a smart window material that can effectively control the amount of heat and light passing through it in response to an applied voltage. Such smart window materials would help developing efficient automatic climate control systems in buildings. The results of their study have recently been published in the journal, Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells.
Why the recent 6.4 magnitude earthquake should be a wake-up jolt for Assam
Scientists point that anthropogenic factors could contribute to earthquake triggers, although of smaller magnitude. 3 hours ago Seismic activity has a role to play in adding sediment load to the Brahmaputra river. | Vinoyblog/Wikimedia Commons
When a strong, 6.4 magnitude earthquake shook Assam on April 28, there was panic and mayhem. The earth cracked near the epicentre in the Sonitpur district, and so did walls and ceilings of people’s houses scores of miles in the radius; buildings swayed “like betel nut trees in the wind”, a hill broke down, and water seeped out of paddy fields.

GUWAHATI: Covid-19 has taken its toll on campus placement at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G), where an overall 8% decline in placement has been recorded in the 2020-21 season.
The total number of students placed in 2020-21 is 686 out of 1,200 registered students, accounting for 57.16%. The corresponding figure for 2019-2020 was 692 out of 1,060 or 65.28%. However, this year more students from the MA programme found placement compared to last year.
The silver lining is that the average salary for B.Tech and B.Des students has gone up to 21.41 lakhs per annum, an increase by around Rs 79,000, if compared to the previous year. In M.Tech and M.Des, the hike in salary has been even more encouraging, with a growth of about 1.70 lakh, if compared to the 2019-20 placement season.
