Using traditional Indian organic components and Japanese afforestation techniques researchers at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur have transformed Odisha’s steel plants’ dumpsites into greenbelts.
A drive through the Dhenkanal region of Odisha will give one the chance to witness the vast stretches of the green canopy and vegetation developed by research team, on the industrial dumpsites.
The transformation to a greenbelt is not a natural reclamation but the “Midas touch” of the Post Mining Mine Site Restoration group of the Department of Mining Engineering of IIT Kharagpur through a project supported by Tata Steel BSL, according to the team that worked on the project.

A substantial fraction of India s 1.35 billion population currently has immunity against the coronavirus, coupled perhaps with some natural form of immunity, three eminent scientists of the country said quoting serological surveys as well as model predictions.
The scientists Rajeeva L Karandikar of Chennai Mathematical Institute, Shekhar C Mande of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi and M Vidyasagar of Indian Institute of Technology in Hyderabad also made a strong case for speeding up the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination campaign which gives longer protection to the disease than natural immunity or presence of antibodies from previous infections.

According to an official statement, the Prime Minister will also address the 66th Convocation of IIT Kharagpur. West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Union Minister of State for Education Sanjay Dhotre will also be present on the occasion.
The super speciality hospital has been set up by IIT Kharagpur with support from the Ministry of Education. The institute is inspired by the vision of the Prime Minister that the future of India will be shaped by investment in science and innovation and driven by its research talent. This hospital thus is a product of the fusion between technology and healthcare, read the statement.
