LUDHIANA: Relief is in store for Ghazipur village near Khanna in Punjab s Ludhiana district. With an aim to provide potable water to the residents, work on setting up of an arsenic removal plant has started. Health experts say that long-term exposure of drinking water and food to arsenic can cause cancer and skin lesions. It has also been associated with developmental effects, cardiovascular disease, neurotoxicity and diabetes. Sahil Anand, executive engineer, water supply, Ludhiana, said that the plant being constructed at a cost of Rs 18 lakh by experts from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras would be ready by March 31, 2021. The plant is being constructed at a cost of Rs 18 lakh.
