Suspected drone attack at Jammu air base upsets Indian military - Newspaper

NEW DELHI: Investigators began probing a suspected drone strike on an air base in India-occupied Jammu on Sunday, with experts saying such an attack would be a first such test for New Delhi and raise concerns about security at military installations. “Two low-intensity explosions were reported early on Sunday morning in the technical area of Jammu air force station. One caused minor damage to the roof of a building while the other exploded in an open area,” the Indian Air Force tweeted. “There was no damage to any equipment. Investigation is in progress along with civil agencies.” Dilbagh Singh, the police chief of India-occupied Kashmir, said in a statement that a “drone with payload” was suspected to have been used to “drop the explosive material”.

Ignoring warnings of a third COVID-19 wave, Indian government eases restrictions

Ignoring warnings of a third COVID-19 wave, Indian government eases restrictions Just weeks after the devastating second wave of COVID-19 peaked, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and state government are easing the already limited restrictions, paving the way for another disaster. These moves are a continuation of the Indian ruling elite’s decision, from the outset of the pandemic, to place big business profits above human lives. India’s total COVID-19 cases are now over 30 million with the death toll nearing 400,000. Despite a relative decline, the number of daily cases and deaths is still very high at around 50,000 and just over 1,000 respectively down from 400,000 and 4,000 at the height of the second wave. Coronavirus infections, however, are expected to surge again with the spread of new Delta and Delta Plus variants. The ministry of health figures are widely regarded as gross underestimates.

PHOTO: FILE ISLAMABAD: PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the PTI-led government, while ministers responded to him in an equally strong manner. Bilawal claimed Prime Minister Imran Khan had become an advocate for convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav instead of representing the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). “He [PM Imran] is trying to give an NRO [safe exit] to Jadhav. He issued an ordinance for him [Jadhav] in the darkness of the night,” the scion of the Bhutto dynasty said while addressing a rally in Hajira in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), where he is campaigning for his party for the region’s upcoming polls.
