A court placed Fayezi on a five-day remand in connection with a case filed over the violence.
SM Rashidul Haque, superintendent of Chattogram district police, said in primary quizzing Fayezi accepted that on March 26 he organised Hefajat men at Hathazari upazila with ill intention.
Addressing a press briefing, the police official also said that from other arrestees they got several names of Hefajat s financiers in the mayhem. Jakaria Noman is one of them, he said, adding they were investigating every aspect.
The police official also said that the arrested Hefajat men, during interrogation, admitted that they intended to create unrest situation in Bangladesh by carrying out subversive activities and toppling the government.

WASHINGTON G. Balachandran turned 80 this spring a milestone of a birthday in India, where he lives. If not for the coronavirus pandemic, he would have been surrounded by family members who gathered to celebrate with him.

But with the virus ravaging his homeland, Balachandran had to settle for congratulatory phone calls. Including one from his rather famous niece: Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Unfortunately, because of the COVID, I cannot have such an elaborate function,” the retired academic said in a Zoom interview Thursday from his home in New Delhi.
Harris’ uncle says he spoke with the vice president and her husband, Doug Emhoff, for quite a while. To close out the conversation, Harris assured him she’d take care of his daughter her cousin who lives in Washington.

China Launches the Core Module of Its Space Station
With the successful launch on April 28 of the Tianhe core module of its Tiangong space station, China begins to carry out the third phase of its manned space program. That series of missions has been a 30-year program, culminating in the operation of an Earth-orbiting space station in 2021, a bit later than the target year of 2020.
The first phase had the goal of demonstrating that manned space flight was safe. That was accomplished in 2003.The second phase, which lasted from then until now, demonstrated many of the technologies needed for long duration spaceflight, such as extravehicular activity and refueling, using Chinese equipment.
