Medical experts have warned that Nigerians will face serious problems if the Federal Government fails to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 strain in India to Nigeria.
The experts, including the president of the Academy of Medicine Specialities of Nigeria, Prof. Oladapo Ashiru, and a medical virologist at Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, Dr Oladipo Kolawole, gave the warning on Thursday as the Nigerian Medical Association advised Nigerians to fear the new COVID-19 strain in India and take necessary precautions to prevent its spread to the country.

India has been facing a deteriorating COVID-19 situation, as the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday that India alone accounted for 38 percent of global case growth last week.
The country also reported a 93 percent week-on-week increase in the number of coronavirus-related deaths in the seven-day period that ended on April 25.
HIGHEST DAILY SURGE
On Thursday, India reported the largest daily increase of 379,275 new cases since the outbreak of the pandemic, and the country has been reporting more than 300,000 new COVID-19 cases each day over the past week.

Bangladesh, April 30 Five more people have been arrested in the past 24 hours in connection with last month s mayhem by Hefazat-e-Islam supporters in Brahmanbaria, police said on Friday.
The arrests were made from different parts of Brahmanbaria after identifying the accused from video footage and images taken during the violence, the district police said.
So far, 55 cases have been filed and 392 people nabbed over the rampage, the police said in a release.
On March 27, at least five people were killed and around 50 others, including 25 cops, injured in clashes between members of law enforcement agencies and locals during Hefazat s demonstrations at Nandanpur in Sadar upazila.They had staged the protests against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi s visit to Bangladesh.
