Malik calls for emergency Saarc moot on COVID-19

National April 26, 2021 ISLAMABAD: PPP senior leader ex-senator Rehman Malik has called for an emergency summit of leaders of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) for devising a common strategy for tackling the deadly COVID-19. “Undoubtedly COVID-19 is getting its dangerous grip in South Asia and the third wave is likely to hit all countries of Saarc,” he said while talking to The News Sunday. Malik urged that Saarc should immediately meet and create a COVID-19 fund, common medical staff and a pool with all logistics to help each other. He said Prime Minister Imran Khan should take the initiative and make a formal proposal to convene a Saarc conference on urgent basis. “I see a great potential to save people from COVID-19 of this region with collective efforts and common strategy,” he added. He urged all the member countries to keep their egos aside and come forward for saving lives of innocent and helpless people.

Modi: India Shaken by Surge in COVID Cases, Urges Vaccinations

April 26, 2021 08:25 COVID-19 has shaken India, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his monthly radio address Sunday, as he urged citizens to get their shots and not be swayed by what he called any rumor about the vaccine. The remarks came as the capital city of New Delhi extended by one week a lockdown that was set to be lifted Monday.  India s health ministry said 349,691 new cases had been recorded in the nation in the previous 24-hour period, yet another daily record. COVID-19 is the disease caused by the coronavirus. The new infection figures are likely undercounted, public health officials have warned. Reports from the ministry of a string of days with more than 300,000 new infections represents just a fraction of the real reach of the virus s spread, according to the New York Times.

Pakistan ready for India talks if Kashmir actions revisited : FM | India News

Islamabad, Pakistan – Pakistan says it is ready to engage in dialogue with India if its eastern neighbour “is willing to revisit” its recent actions in the disputed territory of Kashmir, Pakistan’s foreign minister says. Speaking to Anadolu news agency in an interview released on Sunday, Pakistani foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi welcomed a recent thawing of relations between the two countries. “If India is willing to revisit some of the decisions that they took on August 5, 2019, Pakistan will be more than happy to engage, sit and talk out our differences and sit and, through a dialogue, resolve the outstanding issues,” said Qureshi, referring to India’s 2019 move to revoke Indian-administered Kashmir’s special constitutional status and launch a widespread crackdown in the territory.
