The Air India pilots associations have asked their members not to accept any duty during weekly offs and rest period including undertaking pre-flight Covid tests.
Indian Pilots Guild and Indian Commercial Pilots Association, in a letter to Capt. R. S. Sandhu, Director (Operations), Air India said, It has been brought to our notice that pilots are frequently being planned for COVID tests during their weekly offs or post-flight rest periods. As you are aware, any task that flight crew members are required by the operator to perform. is clearly defined as Duty in the DGCA FDTL CAR and the current Air India Flight Crew FDTL Scheme. This practice therefore represents a flagrant violation and must be discontinued immediately .

New Delhi: Air India pilots on Tuesday have demanded the airline’s management to provide them with details of the distinct Phylogenetic cluster of Sars-CoV-2 that has been discovered in the United Kingdom (UK). They demanded that the company procure information from labs and promptly inform all pilots who have tested Covid-19 positive and pilots who may test positive in future if they re infected with this deadlier variant .
In a letter to its director of operations on Tuesday, the pilots pointed out that Air India, from the beginning of the pandemic, has taken the lead on relief missions, ferrying essential cargo, and operating evacuation and repatriation flights across the globe.

We demand the company procure info from labs and promptly inform all pilots who have tested COVID positive and pilots who may test positive in future if they are infected with this deadlier variant of SARs-CoV-2, the Association said in its letter. We demand that this is the interest of the country, the frontline workers of Air India and their families to ensure that this deadlier lineage B.1.1.7 does not get a foothold into our homes. We are hopeful that the company and the government will not hesitate in promptly providing this crucial information, it said.
