Shimla: Three men have been arrested for allegedly trying to hold without permission a protest in support of farmers at the Ridge Maidan here on Tuesday, police said.
Karandeep Sandhu, Harpreet Singh and Gurpreet Singh from Punjab’s Mohali and Chandigarh were arrested under Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) sections 107 (apprehension of breach of peace) and 151 (arrest to prevent cognisable offences) as they had no permission either from the home department or from the deputy commissioner to hold the protest, a police spokesperson said.

‘It will deprive State govts. of their power over minor ports’
The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) said The Indian Ports Bill – 2020, proposed by the Centre will deprive the State governments of their power over minor ports.
Speaking to the media here on Sunday, CITU State president Ch. Narasinga Rao, city general secretary M. Jaggu Naidu and the national vice-president of the Water Transport Workers Federation V.S. Padmanabha Raju said the States would lose the revenue they are presently getting from the minor ports and the Centre would gain hegemony over them.
Labour Codes may get implemented before April 1: Report
Twenty nine central labour laws have been consolidated into four codes on occupational safety, minimum wages, and social security.

The Industrial Relations Code, 2020, the Code on Social Security, 2020, and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, were passed by Parliament in 2020, whereas the Code on Wages was passed during the monsoon session of Parliament in 2019.
