Qatar, India virtually hold fourth Foreign Office Consultations

Doha: The fourth Foreign Office Consultations between Qatar and India were held virtually today, February 1, 2021. The Qatari side was led by Dr. Ahmad Hassan Al-Hamadi, Secretary General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State of Qatar and the Indian side was led by Shri Sanjay Bhattacharyya, Secretary (CPV & OIA), Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.
Both sides expressed satisfaction that despite the Covid-19 pandemic they have kept in close touch including the telephone conversations between the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the visit of Indian External Affairs Minister to Qatar in December 2020. These gave new momentum to bilateral relations. Indian official thanked the Qatari side for taking care of the Indian community in Qatar during the pandemic.

(Lanka-e-News- 31.Jan.2021, 10.30 PM) UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet in her latest report on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva next month would urge the world leaders to call for an imposition of targeted sanctions, such as a ban on assets and travel for Sri Lankans who are facing credible allegations of human rights abuses.
The High Commissioner further recommended that the International Criminal Court (ICC) to set up an international mechanism to investigate and prosecute those accused of human rights abuses and war crimes.
Never before has such a serious proposal been made to Sri Lanka by the international community.

American Secretary of State Antony Blinken underscored India s role as a pre-eminent partner of the US in the Indo-Pacific during a discussion with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on expanding ties, a top official said here.
State Department spokesperson Ned Price said that Blinken called Jaishankar on Friday to reaffirm the growing US-India partnership and discuss issues of mutual concern, including Covid-19 vaccination efforts, regional developments, and next steps in expanding bilateral ties .
