Economy > Economy - general Violent tractor rally leaves 300 police personnel injured 28 January 2021 At least 300 police personnel were injures in the violence let loose by protestors in the name of tractor rally in the national capital on Republic Day. Protestors targeted police with sticks and other crude weapons and even tried to run over them with their tractors. Clashes broke out at several places, including Red Fort and ITO, Mukarba Chowk, Nangloi and other areas as protestors removed all barricades to enter uncharted routes in defiance of authority. The Delhi Police have arrested 200 people in connection with the violence, and 22 FIRs have been filed so far. Police have also detained over 300 people in connection with Tuesday’s violence at several places in Delhi.

BHUBANESWAR: The farmers and their outfits are preparing to hold the hunger strike on January 30, Martyr’s Day. They will organise this strike across the state starting from rural areas to urban centres. They said that the protest introduced by the Father of the Nation almost a century ago is a great medium to give a message to the Centre against the farm laws. All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC), an umbrella organisation of different farmer outfits, will organise the hunger strike across the state under the guidance of Samyukt Kisan Morcha. “We will hold the hunger strike on the martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi,” said Suresh Panigrahy state convenor of AIKSCC.

The farmers’ leaders have vowed to continue their protests against three farm laws that aim to reform the agricultural sector. It s been several days since the Indian capital witnessed a massive clash between police and protesting farmers, and the camps of the agitated agriculturalists protesting on the outskirts of Delhi look deserted. Since 26 November, thousands of farmers, stationed in semi-makeshift camps, have blocked the roads in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana which lead to Delhi.
