Former Maldives President and Speaker of the Maldives Parliament Mohamed Nasheed was injured in an explosion on Thursday evening. The blast took place near his car. Following an explosion on Neeloafaru Magu in Malé, Speaker of Parliament President Mohamed Nasheed has sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at ADK Hospital, the Maldives Police tweeted.

The 53-year-old pro-democracy pioneer was about to get into his car in the congested capital when a bomb rigged to a motorcycle was detonated, officials said. Nasheed escaped an assassination attempt, a Maldivian government official told AFP by telephone. He is injured, but his condition is stable.
Nasheed is being treated for shrapnel wounds under anaesthesia at hospital but two family members said he is talking and responsive. A foreign tourist was also injured.
Japan pledges additional COVID aid to India
Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu has told his Indian counterpart that Tokyo will provide up to 50 million dollars additionally to help India s medical system, which is under serious strain due to a surge in coronavirus cases.
Motegi talked online with India s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in London on Wednesday, on the sidelines of a Group of Seven meeting. Jaishankar was attending the meeting virtually after two Indian delegates tested positive for the coronavirus.
Motegi conveyed his condolences for the loss of many lives due to COVID-19 in India and pledged the grant aid in addition to ventilators and other medical equipment to be given to India.
