Increase in targeted patrols and a new ride sharing initiative in line for this weekend By: Matt Nagy
Troopers with the Indiana State Police will be conducting targeted patrols over the next few days to combat an expected increase in impaired and dangerous driving behavior.
Increased patrols will take place from Wednesday through Saturday in preparation of more impaired driving during both St. Patrick s Day and the first two rounds of the college basketball tournament.
Troopers will be out in full force in an effort to keep our Indiana roadways safe and sober.
Hoosiers around the state are being asked to party safely and make responsible choices when it comes to your means of transportation.
If you re planning on celebrating St. Patrick s Day tonight by consuming some adult beverages, you have the opportunity for a free, sober ride home.
The Evansville Police Department took to social media to remind residents of a program called Sober Ride Indiana. This is a program for those out drinking to get a safe, free ride home on high-risk holidays and events. St. Patrick s Day certainly falls under that category. A lot of bars in the area will be providing several St. Patrick s Day specials and parties. While there s nothing wrong with going out, and partaking in these events, you want to make sure you aren t out drinking and driving afterwards and endangering the lives of others and yourself.
