Brosseau breaks up Manaea s no-hitter: Sean Manaea s bid to throw MLB s second no-hitter of the night and fifth of the season on Friday was broken up by Mike Brosseau. The Oakland southpaw had thrown seven no-hit innings before the Tampa Bay hitter, who specializes against left-handed pitching, laced a double to lead off the eighth inning. Brosseau came in to score and tie the game 1-1 on Mike Zunino s hit. The former Andrean teammates add the latest chapter to their storied careers. ESPN reporter Jeff Passan told The Times he hadn t heard of a hitter breaking up a pitcher s no-hitter, having both attended the same high school, but Passan pondered it potentially could have happened early in a game previously. Oakland went on to win the game 2-1 on a walk-off home run by Seth Brown. Manaea went 7 1/3 innings, giving up two hits, one earned run, one walk and striking out 10. Brosseau was 1 for 3 with the double and run scored.
Homestead to participate in HOF Classic

Homestead is one of four boys teams that will participate in the 45th Annual Raymond James Hall of Fame Classic at New Castle Fieldhouse on Dec. 30.
Westfield and Connersville are scheduled to play in the first semifinal at 11 a.m., and Homestead and Cathedral will play in the second semifinal. The consolation finals will be played at 6 p.m., with the championship game to follow.
Tickets will be available through participating schools or the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame after the 2021-2022 school year starts.
The girls Hall of Fame Classic will be held on Dec. 29, and will feature Westfield vs. Franklin Community and Washington vs. South Bend Washington.
Dr. Phil Borst played significant leadership roles in the successful effort by Indiana and the City of Indianapolis to host the Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments and the NCAA Men’s March Madness Tournament.
Meet Dr. Philip Borst (PU DVM ’75), a Purdue Veterinary Medicine alumnus and long-time Indianapolis practitioner who also serves as co-chairman of the local organizing committee for the Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments. His innovative career combination began while he was a student at Purdue where, in addition to his studies, he also served as a student manager of the Men’s Basketball Team.
It’s been a rough April for the Portland Trail Blazers. Since the start of the month they’ve won just three games they’ve lost 10, including their last five and have gone from being just a half game out of fourth in the Western Conference standings to being just game away from falling to ninth. In short, it has not the late-season rally we’ve become accustomed to seeing from the Trail Blazers in recent seasons.
So considering that they’ve got a better record on the road than they do at home this season, perhaps an extended road trip is what they need in order to spark a playoff push. They start their longest trip of the season Tuesday versus the Pacers in Indianapolis in the first game of a back-to-back. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Robert Kania has coached a lot of football over the years, serving as an assistant at Penn, South Central, Portage, Wheeler and Chesterton.
After spending the last eight seasons with the Trojans and coach Mark Peterson, Kania confirmed Monday that he s finally leading his own program. The 1991 Penn grad has returned to Wheeler and has been hired as the Bearcats new football coach. I started my career at Penn (in 1996) and won a (Class 5A) state title. I should ve retired then, Kania said, laughing. I ve kind of worked my way around, but I ve enjoyed every second if it.
