As FAFSA Filing Lags, Indiana Commission Extends Application Window

Credit Lauren Chapman / IPB News The Indiana Commission for Higher Education is extending the deadline for filing the federal application for student financial aid.  There is no new deadline for students to submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA; instead, the commission said limited award funding will be issued on a first-come-first-serve basis. The application is used to determine federal financial aid, but the state also uses FAFSA for consideration of several aid programs, including 21st Century Scholarships and the Frank O Bannon Grant.  In other words: file as soon as possible. The commission made a similar announcement last year, as the emerging COVID-19 pandemic prompted concerns about students access to adequate support for filing the application.

Indiana extends FAFSA filing deadline

INDIANAPOLIS — Citing a decline in applications, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) has extended the filing deadline for the 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). According to a press release from the ICHE, there is no set deadline for submitting the FAFSA. But students are encouraged to do so as soon as possible to gain access to funds that will be released on a first-come, first-served basis. Among the Indiana programs offering aid are the 21st Century Scholarship and the Frank O Bannon Grant. There is no deadline for applying for the Next Level Workforce Ready Grant, however.
