Free fishing day Posted: May 2, 2021 9:03 PM Posted By: Staff Report It s happening all week long. Today folks got to enjoy a free fishing day at select state parks and reservoirs. Shakamak Park in Jasonville was one, that provided this service. Folks had the chance to enjoy the publics waters without a fishing license. This is an effort put on by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. They provide a great service for the people in the community to come out here for people to enjoy the great outdoors, says fisher Jace French. Related Content

Search of missing occupant of capsized boat on Lake Michigan continues By: Kate Luce LAKE COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana Conservation Officers are continuing to search for a missing occupant of a boat that capsized on Lake Michigan, just outside of the East Chicago Marina, on Saturday afternoon, Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources said. The missing man has been identified as Kevin Soto Crespo, 20-year-old from Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. He has been missing since Saturday around 2:15 p.m. after the boat he was on capsized. Three other occupants of the boat were able to put on life jackets and were rescued on Saturday, DNR said.

Cedar Lake to build new pier near town hall, historical society

CEDAR LAKE â The town is gearing up to build a new pier behind town hall and in front of the Cedar Lake Historical Association.Â The pier is a partnership between the town and historical society, which recently approached the town to install a pier in front of its building to accommodate its new exhibit, Stream Through History. The new pier will be 30 feet longer than the existing municipal pier, and will be open to the public. Previously, the pier was for police, fire and Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) use only.Â Ride along with LaPorte Police Specialist Justin Dyer as he patrols the streets of LaPorte.
