Proposed Indiana Bill Would Bring Certainty, Structure to Land Valuation for Solar Generation Purposes

Thursday, February 25, 2021 - 3:00pm A bill introduced in the Indiana House of Representatives would provide certainty and structure to the valuation of land when it is used for solar generation purposes. This legislation would allow the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance to set median tax value for county assessors for three regions on an annual basis.

South Bend school official warns of unintended consequences of proposed disannexation

A longstanding St. Joseph County debate over school district boundaries captured the state’s attention last week after Republican lawmakers booed and shouted down Black legislators’ concerns about discrimination in a bill that would remove students from the racially diverse South Bend Community School Corp. and send them to the smaller, less diverse John Glenn School Corp. House Bill 1367, which advanced to the state Senate last week, would provide a new mechanism for John Glenn to seek disannexation of the South Bend Community School Corp.’s Greene Township without the South Bend district’s cooperation or approval. If the bill passes, South Bend school officials say, their district could stand to lose millions in property tax money and have little recourse for the change.
